Project Details

Wayne County Courthouse

Wooster, OH

Designed by architect Thomas Boyd in the classic Second Empire style, this stately 1879 sandstone building is a testament to timeless craftsmanship. Notable features include its iconic clock tower, grand arches, mansard roof (a four-sided gambrel-style hip roof), and four Berea stone statues of Atlas, the mythological figure.

The restoration work encompassed the clock and bell tower, decorative sandstone, and intricate sheet metal details. It also included a slate roof replacement, built-in copper gutter system replacement, tuckpointing, and selective repairs, followed by meticulous painting.

The courthouse remained fully operational during the project.

This restoration earned the 2016 Excellence in Exterior Restoration Award from the Cleveland Restoration Society and AIA Cleveland.
